75th Anniversary of Royal Family Visit to South Africa Day 8

 Day 8: 7th February 1947

Captain's Diary

At 6.00 am Cape Verde Lighthouse was 8 miles to port.

At 10.30am the Squadron was in a position 30 miles West of the mouth of the Gambia River.

The Squadron stopped and Vanguard hoisted out the Royal Barge. At 11.00 the Royal Family proceeded to HMS Implacable. The Royal family walked round the ship and the Queen spoke to the ship's company (the Queen had launched the ship) and then the RF had lunch on board. Then at 13.45 the RF left to visit Cleopatra, Diadem and St Kitt's and visited each ship and they were introduced to the ship's officers and ships company marched past. The RF returned to HMS Vanguard and the Royal Barge was hoisted back on board.

In the evening the RF attended the Ships Company Concert on the Quarter deck.

This is the concert programme.
