HMS Vanguard
A passage from the Captain's Diary:
The ship passed though the anchorage off Port Elizabeth at 0800, there was a heavy swell and the Captain states he took the decision to call off the the intended visit of Friday, Saturday and Sunday because of the weather conditions. The information was signalled to the Commander in Chief asking him to relay this information to the authorities so events could be cancelled which related to HMS Vanguard.
The ship then passed close to Port Alfred at 1400 and then anchored off East London at 1820. There was a heavy swell.
