1700 The Royal Family visited the Arts & Crafts Exhibition in the information room and her majesty the Queen presented the prizes to the winning competitors.

HMS Vanguard the Final Chapter Part 4

On the 4th August 1960  HMS Vanguard was towed from Portsmouth harbour to the breakers yard at Faslane ,which is near to Glasgow. However as the ship was towed to the harbours entrance the ship slewed across the harbour to the Still & West public house and went aground. Tugs finally pulled the ship clear and 5 days later it was in Faslane.

Come the 2nd April 1962 the remains of the HMS Vanguard (Hull) was breached and the hull broken up and yielded 38000 tons of metal.













This small box has the plaque stating that it was made from oak wood that came from fittings of the Chapel on HMS Vanguard.

 Last Day of this Blog. My thanks to those of you who have looked over the last 102 days. The blog has been seen in 26 different countries. Some last items regarding what happened after the Tour finished. Postal Cover another one dated the 12th May 1947 with the Captain's franking but strangely using South West Africa stamps. The last part of the return to England by the Royal Family was on the 15th May when there was a Luncheon and Concert in the Royal Families honour at the Guildhall. Couple of items that happened after the Royal Tour. A thank you to the New Captain and the Crew from HRH Princess Elizabeth for her wedding present and she mentions fond memories of the time spent on the ship Our Electrician on the Royal Train received afterwards a certificate of thank you The Royal Mint issued this commemorative coin THE END

 Day 81: 21st April 1947 HRH Princess Elizabeth is 21 today. She makes her first radio broadcast to the Commonwealth.  Hi All Readers Thank you very much for your interest over the last 29days. Interest has waned in my blog postings over the last week, not surprising with what is happening in Ukraine at this moment in time. The sadness is that this blog goes back to just 2 years after the Second World War ended and here we are back to those times. Therefore I am happy to continue but will need some positive comments to say continue otherwise the time involved in doing the blog will be an unnecessary effort of my time resources and I will not carry on with the blog. Look forward to any comments either positive or negative.
